Autodesk Whip! Plugin
Whip! is a ActiveX Control for the Microsoft Internet Explorer, or as a Plug-In for Netscape Navigator for your browser.
It is used to view Autocad drawings converted into a format called DWF short for Drawing Web Format.
What platforms does it run under?
WHIP! is limited to running on Windows95, Windows98, and Windows NT.
but does not port to Windows 3.11, Macintosh, nor Unix.
What can I do with it?
See below for some uses of dwf drawings. You will have to download the plugin to use with the viewing drawings pages.
Is there more then one version?
There are three versions of the plugin. Which one you use depends on your platform, browser and access method.
Whip.cab
The <object codebase.. > tag prompts the download of the Whip.cab for Internet Explorer users.
Whip.exe
A direct download via a link downloads the Whip.exe version which can be used for either Netscape or Internet Explorer.
A direct download is used mainly if you view a page with a dwf window and the plugin is not loaded. A direct download via the link is mainly used by Ie users.
Whip.jar
The <Embed pluginspage.. > is used by Netscape users, if the plugin is not loaded the pluginspage calls another html page to download either the Whip.exe of the Whip.jar
The whip.exe contains both versions and is the best option while the Whip.jar gives Netscape users partially automatic download.
I have downloaded the plugin and installed it. What now?
Assuming you have Autocad and want to create dwf drawings, then go to the Setting up Autocad for DWF page. You may need to download the Internet utilities, help is given in the Setting up autocad page.

Examples of the types of dwf windows you can encounter..

Viewing your DWF drawing can take many forms..

Dwf files can be a web page on its own,
Dwf files can be viewed within a web page(windowed),
Dwf files can be viewed within a Word97 document,
Dwf files can be viewed within a Excel97 document.

There are examples and samples to view and download.

What uses can I create with dwf drawings and whip!..

View drawing without Autocad
This can be locally, on a single machine, Local Area Network, or with a internet connection and a hosted site, this can be also globally.

With a Viewer
Redlining drawing for correction/amendments directly on to the dwf, again without even having autocad, and view it for anywhere with a internet connection.

Fast transfer of drawing information.
If the drawing is located in the same directery then the drawing (not the dwf) can be loaded into Autocad as an insert or a new drawing. This can be locally or globally.

Prepare documents with accurate drawing information
This feature could be used to exchange vast amounts of information. Using drawing plan information, parts information... etc. within a document, say a works procedure, a installation procedure, a specification manual... etc the types of documents is endless.. A great feature that only requires Microsofts standard Office 97 package, or just Word97 or Excel97. See downloads for examples with sample instructions.

These are just a couple of uses for whip and dwf.
